Previous Next. Actaeon Diamond Member. Dec 28, 8, 20 I just bought HL2, and in the middle of playing HL1:S, it keeps crashing every once and a while, I couldn't figure out why. I am thinking it is perhaps a software problem, but I still like to keep an open mind.
Is that too hot? I have not tried HL2 yet. Because it runs every game but HL:S fine, I am thinking its software. I think 78C is fine espically since slowdown temps are in to C rangebut I just want to see others opinions first.

Lately I've noticed that sometimes after gaming my idle graphs are stuck at high. Usually when I'm done playing I leave my PC idle for temperatures to settle down, but it's been stuck at high.
It feels pretty random. When I played Metro for a few minutes, everything seemed fine afterwards. Today, I tested Ziggurat. Playing it for the first time and then exiting the game gave me no issues. But the second time around my issue came back. This problem only occurs after gaming, and it's kind of random at that. If I don't play anything and just browse the web, my idle graphs are normal.
The only way to get back my normal idle temperature is to restart the damn computer. I've googled for an answer for hours and I can only find users who share this issue that own a higher refresh rate monitor.
I've tried doing a clean install of the latest nvidia drivers, uninstalling Geforce Experience, reinstalling afterburner, running virus and malware scans, and even reattaching and dusting my video card.
Nothing seemed to work, and I'm getting very frustrated. I had to exit the program to get back to 2D clocks. I then unintalled it. Last edited by sweet c ; 28 Dec, pm. Showing 1 - 15 of 59 comments.

Play your game, end your game. I've already uninstalled Geforce Experience. I haven't tried playing the game without Afterburner. I might do that next. Well, start with step 3 then :P. It is an app u have running in the background most likely.

Learn more. Because, ultimately, every processor is built to run at slightly different temperature ranges. And, there is really not a one-size-fits-all approach to determing normal CPU temperature ranges. If you are looking for a quick answer, we have attempted to give you a one-size-fits-all answer below. But, just know that it will never be a great way to determine whether or not your CPU temps are too high or not.
Again, there is no way to give you an accurate one-size-fits-all answer to whether or not your CPU temperatures are too high or not. So, in other words, if your CPU is hitting those temperatures on a regular basis, you will likely want to dive into the problem further and see what is going on. Again, this is a generalization. And, the temperature shown in your BIOS will always be a bit higher reading than what it will be when the system is idling in Windows, because BIOS will always boot your processor using higher voltage levels in order to make sure that it will initialize.
There are quite a few different programs out there that will let you monitor your CPU temperatures and some will monitor the temperature on your other components, too. Core Temp shows you what the individual temperature is on each one of those six-cores.
To check what my temperature is under a heavier load, you could play a demanding game like PUBG, or Battlefield 1or render a video, or do something else taxing. There are a number of stress-test tools out there and there is a lot of discussion on which one is the best to use.
The SmallFFT test on newer versions of Prime95 will actually push your processor past realistic levels and, therefore, is not a great method to use if you are trying to determine whether or not your CPU temps are safe or not. But, the general consensus is that Prime95 v. So, now that I have those numbers, how do I know if degrees Celsius while idling and degrees Celsius under full load is a good range of CPU temperatures for my processor?
While I can tell you that those are generally safe CPU temperatures for the K at stock settings and with the cooler I havethere are a few things that I had to consider first before declaring that those are CPU temperatures I can live with. Once you have those temperatures, then you can seek out whether or not they are normal.
And, if a CPU manufacturer suggested a one-size-fits-all recommended operating temperature, it would likely cause more harm than good. Now, Intel does provide a maximum operating temperature, which we will get into in just a moment. And, if you have an Intel processor, that maximum operating temperature will help you determine whether or not your temperatures are approaching or hitting a level that is definitely too high.
An Intel Core iK is going to run at different temperatures than an older Intel Core i at idle and when under load. The older iQM processor in my laptop is going to run at different temperatures than a desktop processor, or than a newer Intel Core iH laptop CPU. Most processors run at different temperatures, whether by slightly differing amounts, or by significant temperature differences.
The next thing you need to consider is ambient temperature or room temperature. But, why is my processor running 3-degrees Celsisus higher than theirs? And, that difference in room temperature is why your processor is running at a higher temperature than the benchmarked processor. So, before you freak out, make sure you take into account the room temperature your computer is operating in and factor that in. It may just be that that person has their computer in a much cooler room than yours.
But there are definitely others who will prefer rooms much cooler or warmer, depending on their preferences. In any case, ambient temperature or room temperature is an incredibly important factor to consider when trying to determine whether or not your CPU temps are too high.
Of course, you could be getting higher or lower CPU temperatures than others for a few other reasons, too. Right now I am using a mm AIO cooler. My cooler is quite a bit better than the stock cooler that came with my processor and, as such, I expect to see lower CPU temperatures from my system than someone else who is using the stock cooler will see.

And, those builders will be getting lower temperatures than I am. And, the same is true for the thermal paste you are using.Modern gaming PCs can be incredibly powerful, and incredibly power hungry. Low GPU usage in games is one of the most common problems that trouble many gamers worldwide. If you are getting less than this then you are suffering from low GPU usage problem, which ultimately means less FPS and lower performance in games. There are many factors that can cause low GPU usage, depending upon the system configuration and drivers you have.
It also means that there are both hardware and software factors involved in lower GPU utilization of your graphics card. So, here in this post, I am going to list all the causes and it fixes for low GPU usage. Here are the top software and hardware related problems for low GPU usage with their appropriate fix.
It means that you have an under-powered CPU that is not able to keep up with your graphics card performance. If you have a powerful CPU and still the GPU usage is also not at maximum then you have other issues, which you can check out below. This will cause your GPU to work more and it will have much higher utilization than before.
It can be possible that you are getting high usage on two cores only, and others are just not used at all. Video drivers also contribute a lot to this low GPU usage problem. It is also important to note that the latest drivers are not always better, as I have experienced this many times with my graphics card in the latest games.
So, if you have the latest graphics card drivers installed and getting low GPU usage then you can roll back to previous drivers, and see if the problem goes away or not. Also, if you have older drivers installed then you can install the latest ones and monitor the GPU usage.
Here I would also like to add that if a particular driver works best for your GPU then it is not certain that it will also deliver the best performance for other GPUs.
For example, I get the best performance in games with Forceware If I install the latest drivers then I do notice lower performance and stuttering, even in the latest games. One another thing you should always keep in mind before installing video drivers, you have to completely uninstall previous drivers using DDU or Display Driver Uninstallerwhich is the best video card driver uninstaller utility that removes every trace of the older video driver including its registry.
The most common causes of GPU heating are:. Overclocking — If you have overclocked your graphics card beyond its limit, then most likely the GPU cooler is not able to keep up with the temperature. Eventually, the GPU will definitely get overheated and throttle down to lower clock speeds to avoid any kind of damage to itself.
So, reduce or disable the overclock and keep the temperature under safe working levels, as specified by the GPU manufacturer. Also, bad or worn out thermal paste does result in overheating too. So, here you have to take out the heatsink and apply good quality thermal paste, and then securely tighten the heatsink over the GPU. Higher Case Temperature — If your case has bad airflow then you have higher case temperature and thus higher temperature of other components including graphics card.
So, my advice here is to install at least one intake fan and one exhaust case fan to improve airflow. Good airflow will decrease the temperature of your graphics card and prevents it from overheating.
The only way to fix this issue to replace the graphics card fan with a new one. You can check out the guide below on how to find a replacement fan for your graphics card model. MOSFETs are the major component of a VRM and they heat up pretty quickly, and if they get overheated then they will not be able to provide sufficient power to the GPU, which can force it to throttle down, and thus may cause low GPU usage and lower frame rates.
So, to fix this you can get good thermal pads of appropriate thickness and replace the older ones with them.
